LOVELAND, Colo. — Two motorcyclists who were killed in a collision near Horsetooth Reservoir Sunday were identified by the Colorado State Patrol on Monday.

Boulder resident Ryan Gorter, 28, was riding a Ducati along County Road 38 East about 2 p.m., CSP reported. For reasons that are not yet clear, Gorter crossed the center line and struck an oncoming Suzuki motorcycle head-on, police said.

Gorter died at the scene. The other rider, 55-year-old Rick Ross of Loveland, died at the hospital. Both men were wearing helmets, CSP said.

Roads in the area were closed for several hours, creating serious traffic problems.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation.
