LAFAYETTE, Colo. — A former youth hockey coach convicted in 2012 of soliciting nude photos from minors was stabbed by an unknown attacker Monday afternoon, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office reported.
Zachery Meints, 26, told police he was attacked about 2:30 p.m. while getting out of his car in front of his home. A male wearing a black hoodie and black mask stabbed the victim twice in the back, police said.
Meints was hospitalized. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The stabbing suspect was not located.
In 2012, Meints pleaded guilty to one count of sexual exploitation of a child. He had been accused of sending thousands of texts and Facebook messages to seven boys under the age of 18, asking for naked pictures and making other sexual requests.
Numerous angry parents testified against Meints in court. The father of one victim told the court: “He took some of my son’s innocence, caused significant harm to him. No child should be preyed upon, especially by someone in a position of trust.”
Under the 2012 plea deal, Meints is registered as a sex offender and subject to “intensive supervised probation.”
