GOLDEN, Colo. — The Colorado School of Mines has been making plans to build a new Welcome Center at 18th and Illinois streets in Golden, but a historic home already resides at that location.

On March 26, CSM, the city of Golden and the local Historic Preservation Board announced they would give the home away under a few conditions — the 935-square-foot home needed to be moved to a new location by mid-May.

CSM asked interested parties to submit proposals, which detailed how they planned to move the home and cover insurance costs and other expenses, by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wednesday morning, CSM spokeswoman Karen Gilbert told Channel 2 News the school had received five proposals. The school is currently reviewing the submissions and will announce the final candidate by April 11, she added.
