CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — Crews started blasting work at the Twin Tunnels on Tuesday, causing closures and delays on Interstate 70 just east of Idaho Springs.

Colorado Department of Transportation workers were on site from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. working on the westbound tunnel as part of an expansion project that will add a third lane in the tunnel.

A third lane in the eastbound tunnel was added last year.

At about 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, CDOT said in a tweet that the blasting had been suspended for the day and would resume Wednesday at 7 a.m.
