LONGMONT, Colo. -- A teenage girl is recovering from severe alcohol poisoning after attending a 14-year-old’s birthday party in Longmont. Police are now investigating trying to figure out who supplied the liquor and other drugs for the party.
Teens who attended the party told FOX31 Denver the girl had begun drinking before getting into a limo last Friday.
They claim she drank an entire bottle of Malibu Rum before passing out inside the rented limousine.
“I was sitting right next to her and she was just chugging, chugging, chugging and then we got out at McDonald's and she fell flat on her face,” said Fred, who didn’t want his last name used.
Thirteen kids were taking the ride in the limo that went from Longmont to Fredrick, Fort Collins and back to Longmont last week.
When asked who provided the alcohol the teens said they don’t know and said someone must have snuck it inside the limousine. They never denied that others teens were drinking that night.
The owner of the limousine company said no alcohol was provided by his company. He said when they were cleaning out the limo they found several beer bottles and an empty bottle of rum.
The limo driver, Ron Allen, told FOX31 Denver the parents and teens wanted to take the girl into the home to sober her up but called 911 instead. “I said absolutely not, you’re not getting her out of this limo until the paramedics get here.”
Allen said the privacy window was up, so he couldn’t see what was happening in the back of the limo during the ride.
It’s when he dropped them off at a home in the 1000 block of Yeager that he realized the girl was seriously drunk. “They were throwing her around like a rag doll. Her head was hitting the bar a couple of times. That is when I noticed she was passed out and her eyes were rolled up in the back of her head; she was unconscious and throwing up," said Allen.
His call to 911 probably saved the girl’s life.
Commander Jeff Satur with Longmont police said the girl’s alcohol level was .40, five times the legal limit for an adult.
He said other drugs like marijuana could have been used during the limo ride. He wouldn’t confirm the name of any other drugs, but the teens claimed Molly, a drug used at raves, was used during the ride.
Satur said the parents and teens are not cooperating with the investigation, but he thinks detectives are close to an arrest.
If any teens want to speak with a detective about what happened that night they can call 303-651-8510.
