WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — A man  connected with a stabbing in Wheat Ridge almost a year ago was sentenced to prison Monday.

James Calvin Bryant was sentenced to three years in prison Monday for stabbing John Ferrara, Jr., 41, in May 2013, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office — he had pleaded guilty to the crime on Jan. 21.

Shortly after midnight on May 30, 2013, Ferrara drove to a house in the 3700 block of Vance Street in Wheat Ridge to drop off his two kids at their grandfather’s home, said the DA’s Office.

The victim’s ex-wife, Nicole Ferrara, lived at the home, but he did not expect her to be there.

John Ferrara returned to his vehicle after dropping off his children, said the DA’s Office. Before he was able to leave, his ex-wife, accompanied by Bryant, drove up and got out of their car, yelling at him.

After a brief argument, Nicole Ferrara began hitting her ex-husband while Byrant punched and stabbed the victim, said the DA’s Office.

The victim was stabbed in the neck, arm and torso, eventually collapsing in a pool of blood from the attack, reported officials.

He was then transported to a hospital and treated for his injuries.

The two were arrested the same day the assault occurred near the scene of the crime.

Nicole Ferrara pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and, on Jan. 6, was sentenced to two years probation, said the DA’s Office.
