Four questioned over killing of llama that ran through Trinidad

TRINIDAD, Colo. — A llama that escaped and was seen roaming on the streets of Trinidad and at Trinidad State Junior College earlier this week has been killed, the Trinidad Police Department said Friday.

Two adult males and two juvenile males are being interviewed in connection with the killing. One of the males is believed to be a part-owner of the animal.

Detectives are looking into the cause of death of the llama, which got away from its llama sitter and was running through the southern Colorado town on Wednesday. Numerous photos and video were shot of the animal.

Police later trailed the llama, which was described as “docile” in a Facebook posting by Trinidad State Junior College, to the western edge of the city, where it went into the foothills.

The dead llama was found near Atchison Canyon, where it was last seen by officers.

Trinidad Police will forward its report to the Las Animas County District Attorney’s Office for review and any recommendation of charges.
