DENVER — A man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in 2000 received the maximum prison sentence possible for a guilty plea agreement Monday.
Dony Salazar, 31, pleaded guilty earlier this year to attacking a 40-year-old woman while she waited for a bus at 38th Avenue and Tejon Street on the morning of Dec. 16, 2000, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
Salazar grabbed the victim and forced her at gunpoint into the backyard of a nearby vacant home. There, he sexually assaulted her repeatedly.
The DA’s Office said the case was reopened as part of Denver’s Cold Case Project, after which Salazar was identified as the suspect.
He was sentenced to 40 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections in this case.
Salazar was already serving a 20-year prison sentence for aggravated robbery in a 2000 case.
