NHL suspends Cooke 7 games for hit on Avs’ Barrie
TORONTO — The wait for the ruling about a suspension for Minnesota Wild hockey player Matt Cooke is over.
The NHL suspended Cooke for seven games for taking out Avs’ defenseman Tyson Barrie in Game 3 of their playoff series in Minnesota Tuesday night.
The knee-on-knee hit put the Colorado star out of action for 4-6 weeks with an MCL injury.
Cooke has a history of suspensions in the NHL.
The suspension will not have a financial impact on Cooke unless it carries over into the regular season next year.
Game 4 between the Avs and Wild takes place in St. Paul Thursday night. Colorado leads the round 1 series 2-1.
