Small explosion at CSU chemistry lab sends 1 to hospital

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A small explosion at the Colorado State University Chemistry building sent one student to the hospital while another sustained a minor injury.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, a student was washing a glass container in a CSU chemistry lab when the chemical in the container had a reaction to the water, prompting it to explode, said CSU spokesperson Dell Rae.

The student holding the container was transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for cuts on his face, added Rae. Another student, who was in the vicinity, got a minor cut on his hand from the incident.

CSU said the building was evacuated and there was no damage to the building.

Poudre Fire Authority responded to the explosion.
