Wheat Ridge police arrest suspect in fatal hit-and-run
WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — Wheat Ridge police arrested a 23-year-old man Friday night in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident.
Alton Edward Kirkland was taken into custody as a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred at W. 32nd Avenue and Kipling Street Friday night, according to the Wheat Ridge Police Department.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash.
A woman and child in the suspect’s vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital, said police. The driver of this vehicle, believed to be Kirkland, fled the scene on foot.
One person was killed in a second car, said police.
The driver of the third vehicle involved in the crash was not hurt.
Kipling Street was closed in both directions as police conducted their investigation
Police said Kirkland is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail under charges of vehicular homicide and felony menacing/domestic violence.
Investigators added that they were waiting to release the identity of the victim until the family has been contacted.
