Man shot outside Lakewood Walmart after pointing pellet gun at officers

LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A man was shot by police in the parking lot of a Walmart early Tuesday morning after pointing a pellet gun at police officers, Lakewood Police said.

Just after 3 a.m., Lakewood Police responded to a domestic situation in a car outside of the Walmart at West Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.

The woman told police the male suspect had a gun and when officers tried to get him out of the vehicle, he pointed what they believed to be a gun at the two officers, who then fired shots and struck the man.

After further investigation, the man pointed an airsoft gun at the officers that looks like a real gun, police said.

The man was transported to St. Anthony Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. The woman was taken to the police department for an interview.
