LAKEWOOD, Colo. — Police released the name of the man who was shot during a confrontation with officers outside of a Lakewood Walmart early Tuesday.
The Lakewood Police Department said Alex Robert Martines, 31, was the individual involved in Tuesday morning’s incident.
At approximately 3:20 a.m., Lakewood police responded to a domestic dispute in a vehicle parked outside of the Walmart at W. Colfax Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard.
Martines’ female acquaintance left the vehicle and went inside the store as police were responding. She told authorities Martines had a gun and was still in the car parked on the east side of the building.
Police said they arrived on scene to find Martines still in the car. They asked him to exit the vehicle several times. He refused, eventually brandishing a handgun from his waistband and aiming it at two officers.
The officers fired at Martines, hitting him twice.
Officers placed Martines in custody and then had him transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries.
The suspect’s injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening, said police.
Late Tuesday, Martines was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on four outstanding warrants, said detectives. Later, he was additionally charged with felony menacing, domestic violence, third-degree assault and harassment.
Police said he will likely make his first court appearance Wednesday at 10 a.m.
