Denver rally asks U.S. government to help find kidnapped Nigerian girls
DENVER — The world is watching and waiting as hundreds of Nigerian students remain missing.
The United States and several other countries are promising to help find the girls taken from their school more than three weeks ago. 276 girls are missing — kidnapped by the Islamic militant group Boko Haram.
The world has taken notice with a social media campaign “#Bring Back Our Girls.”
Thursday, students and supporters at the Auraria campus helped spread the message. “They were taken because they were getting an education. And as young women, as African women, we wanted to make sure that we lend them a voice,” says Bineta Keita.
First Lady Michelle Obama is among the many people showing her support on social media. She posted a photo on Twitter holding a sign that said #BringBackOurGirls.
