AURORA, Colo. — Health officials are investigating a bacterial infection linked to a hot tub at an Aurora gym.

It happened at the Bally Sport on South Abilene Street.

Experts say two people contracted Legionnaires’ Disease after being around the hot tub-sauna-pool area.

Legionnaires’ spreads through water mist contaminated by bacteria.

Symptoms include:

  • High fever
  • Chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

“It’s an environmental bacteria, it’s all over the place really, and under certain circumstances it can grow up to higher concentrations,” says John Douglas, Executive Director of Tri-County Health Department.

Bally’s says anyone who went to the gym April 7-24 should get checked out if they start developing symptoms. Bally’s also says it’s working closely with the health department to solve the issue in the pool area at the club.

Legionnaires’ cannot be spread between people.
