HOUSTON — A murder investigation in southeast Houston became chaotic after an accused killer’s father tried to run over a crowd of people.
KHOU-TV reported police came to an apartment complex after a deadly shooting near South Wayside.
Demarkus Harrison, 20, was killed and another person was injured.
The station reported the victim’s family and friends started fighting. As news crews filmed the scene, a man threw a bicycle at a silver sedan.
The driver pulled away, then made a U-turn and sped toward a crowd of people. Bystanders had only seconds to get out of the way.
The driver continued to turn and chase people, video from the scene shows.
Deshonna Smith, who is the fiancée of the driver, said the victim’s family was taunting the driver, later identified as Louis Dante Anthony III.
“That’s when he got upset. The man threw the bicycle. Another man came and punched him in his face. That’s when you seen the car go up in the median,” Smith told KHOU. “The devil has taken over this whole apartment complex. This ain’t nothing but Satan’s playground.”
Anthony, 38, is the father of Louis D. Anthony IV, 18, who is a person of interest in the shooting.
Anthony III was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the Houston Chronicle reported.
