DENVER — Newly signed Denver Broncos safety T.J. Ward appeared in court Friday to answer accusations that he threw a glass mug at a female bartender during a dispute at a strip club on May 10.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a man alleged to be Ward entered the club with two other men about 2:30 a.m. He got angry when the bartender at Centerfold Showclub  told him he could not bring a bottle of alcohol into the club.

Following a dispute, the man was caught on surveillance video throwing a glass mug at the woman, police said. The woman was struck on the wrist and suffered soreness, according to the affidavit.

Based on the video and other evidence, police issued an arrest warrant for Ward on May 22.

Following Ward’s court appearance, the warrant was dismissed. He will next appear on June 23, police said.

A former player for the Cleveland Browns, Ward, 27,  joined the Broncos on March 11 of this year. He signed a four-year contract for $23 million with $14 million guaranteed.

“We have been aware of this issue and will continue to review all of the facts,” the Broncos said in a statement.
