Heavy rain brings flooding, repeat possible Saturday

DENVER — Strong thunderstorms brought heavy rain, gusty wind and hail to the Front Range and metro Denver Friday. And another round of storms is expected to develop Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service issued Flash Flood Warnings  in Boulder, Weld and counties on Colorado’s Eastern Plains.

Storms dumped up to 1″ or more of rain in 30 minutes in some locations along the Front Range.

Storms with heavy rain and winds of 60 mph were reported in Morgan and Logan counties.

The storms ended on the Front Range Friday evening, but continued their march across the Plains late into the night.

Officials banned tubing on Boulder Creek Thursday because of the fast-moving and rising water. The same action was taken in Jefferson County Friday for Clear Creek. Water is running high not only from rain, but from the rapid snowmelt now that temperatures have warmed up in the mountains.

Emergency managers in Boulder have made 30,000 sand bags available to residents who needed them.
