High waters wash out 1/2 mile stretch of Montezuma Rd.

MONTEZUMA, Colo. — High water levels on the Snake River and Peru Creek have caused severe damage to roads in the town of Montezuma.

A half-mile of Montezuma Road near the Peru Creek Trailhead sustained serious damage from the high waters, and a 45-foot span of the roadway was completely washed out, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies reported that the washed out area was 15 feet deep.

On Tuesday afternoon at about 2:15 p.m., deputies ordered a voluntary evacuation of the town and an estimated ten to 12 individuals evacuated.
