DENVER — Friday, June 6 may be the best national food recognition day of the year. It’s National Donut Day.
You can get a free doughnut Friday at LaMar’s Donuts without buying a thing. “Any donut with a hole in it” is eligible according to the company.
The Chicago Salvation Army gets credit for starting the yummy doughnut recognition day back on the first Friday in June of 1938. It began to commemorate women who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.
LaMar’s is partnering with the Salvation Army and using National Donut Day to help do something to fight child hunger.
“During the summer months ahead, The Salvation Army will open its doors to children across the nation providing millions of meals to ensure that no kid goes to bed hungry,” LaMar’s says.
LaMar’s is asking people to help the cause by donating to the Salvation Army.
Other popular doughnut chains like Krispy Kreme are also offering free doughnuts on Friday. You can get one free doughnut of any variety, no purchase necessary. That includes new limited-edition flavors such as Birthday Cake Batter and Brownie Batter flavors.
Dunkin’ Donuts is also offering a freebie, but you have to buy a beverage to get it.
