LOVELAND, Colo. — The Larimer County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman who died in a rafting mishap on the Poudre River west of Fort Collins on Wednesday afternoon.

Rebecca Knight, 26, of Fort Collins died by drowning, the coroner’s office said.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of an overturned raft in Poudre Canyon. Rescuers determined one of the rafters was missing, and Knight’s body was found about 16 minutes later.

Knight’s death is the third on the Poudre River since Memorial Day. Warm temperatures have led to rapid snowmelt in the high country, causing the river to swell and prompting flooding issues in Greeley.

On Memorial Day, Christopher Brian Alania-Canto, 14, fell into the river while fishing with friends and family near the Ouzel campground and picnic area, and his uncle, Jose Antonio Terrel-Pena, 38, jumped into try to save him.

Both drowned in the rapid waters.
