DENVER — The Denver Police Department has found the truck suspected of being involved in the fatal hit-and-run accident late Thursday night and have canceled the Medina Alert.
Police identified Eugene Guerra, 58, of Denver as the man who died and they believe there might be a family relationship between Guerra and the driver.
Later Friday, family members told FOX31 Denver’s Julie Hayden the suspect was the victim’s nephew and that he accidentally ran over his uncle. They say he was on his way to turn himself in to authorities.

The incident happened at East 48th Avenue and Clarkson Street about 10 p.m. Thursday where police say a driver in a white Chevrolet pickup hit Guerra after a confrontation and took off. Police say the victim was protecting a scrap metal yard when they say a driver in a truck pulled up and started loading up on metal.

Police say the two started arguing and witnesses say the driver took off and hit the victim and also caused metal to fall on top of him. The victim died at the scene.
Witnesses say the truck went northbound on Washington Street away from East 52nd Avenue. The truck was found at East 48th Avenue and Race Street.
