Communities get a break after a week of wild weather

DENVER — Many Colorado communities needed the much calmer weather Monday to start the big job of cleaning up after an incredible week of wild weather.

A lightning strike destroyed a tree in Englewood, spraying pieces of it all over the nearby home.

A tornado in Aurora Sunday flipped a construction trailer at the Blackstone Country Club, sending young golfers running for cover.

“It just started to get really bad, really windy … all the clouds and stuff and we see the cloud swirling,” says Grant Kelley who was there when the tornado hit. “Everyone’s like there’s a huge tornado. A car just got flipped over and like everyone was freaking out,” says Quinn Garner.

In the mountains, about 200 cyclists were caught in some surprise snow as they climbed to the top of Berthoud Pass during the Ride to the Rockies event.
