BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A woman drown in a Boulder County ditch while trying to rescue a dog Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Deputies were called to the Highland Ditch in the area of 12900 N. 87th Street, north of Longmont, around 1:30 p.m. on a report of a woman who fell into the water, said Cmdr. Heidi Prentup of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
“Witnesses indicated the woman, who was visiting friends in the area, went into the fast moving water in an attempt to save a dog who had fallen in,” Prentup said.
When deputies arrived, the woman had been pulled from the water and her friends were using CPR to reviver her, Prentup said.
The woman was taken to Longmont United Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The dog was rescued from the ditch and survived, she said.
The woman’s identity will be released pending notification of next of kin.
