Commerce City crash causes power outage, closes government offices

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A car crashed into a utility pole Wednesday morning, causing a power outage and the temporary closure of nearby government offices.

The accident occurred at E. 72nd Avenue and Colorado Boulevard in Commerce City shortly before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to Adams County government officials.

As a result of the accident, the Adams County Human Services Building at 7190 Colorado Blvd. and the Sheriff’s substation at 4210 E. 72nd Ave. lost power.

Officials said the Human Services Building would be closed for the day, but the Sheriff’s substation lobby would stay open for ballot drop-off.

Xcel Energy said the power outage began around 7:28 a.m. and the estimated restoration time is currently 10:38 a.m.
