DENVER — There is a community alert coming from law enforcement Tuesday after the arrest of a man on child pornography charges.

Federal authorities arrested John Lee Mudgett. He made an appearance in federal court Monday.

Investigators say they’re worried that he could be linked to more crimes.

Neighbors gathered near where Mudgett lives in the 1000 block of Irving Street in Denver Tuesday afternoon asking questions about the arrest of the 67-year-old man.

Two weeks ago authorities say they raided his home finding over $2,000 of child pornography and even a little boy’s underwear.

When authorities got inside the home, they found framed inappropriate pictures of young kids hanging on the walls. They say they also found newspaper clippings involving the rape and murder of young children.

Darlene Aguirre watched police raid the home and she says federal investigators left with bins of evidence. “I was shocked,” she says.

She says kids frequently play at the home. It’s something she has tried to discourage. “There’s a couple kids on the block that like to go and roll on the grass and stuff.”

Given what law enforcement found inside, they say they have serious questions about whether Mudgett has had sexual encounters with children before. They say they would like to speak to parents who have concerns.

The judge ordered Mudgett be held in jail without bail, saying he is a danger to the public.
