JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A 45-year-old Bailey man was killed after he lost control of his pickup truck and careened off Highway 285 about five miles north of Conifer on Wednesday morning, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Video showed the passenger side of the 2009 Dodge Ram covered with a white sheet as crews investigated. CSP said the man died at the scene.
CSP said the truck was traveling northbound when it drifted into the center median. It collided with a cable-rail divider and spun into the southbound lanes backward.
The truck then accelerated in the opposite direction, went off the shoulder and down an embankment, coming to rest in a marshy area.
The man’s identity has not been released, pending the notification of next of kin. Troopers are looking into whether a medical condition caused the crash and they don’t believe excessive speed, alcohol or drug use are a factor.
The left lane of northbound 285 and the right lane of the southbound highway were closed as crews continued their investigation.
