DENVER — A child was rushed to the hospital Saturday afternoon after falling from a third-story window at a Denver apartment complex, Denver Fire officials confirmed.

Denver Fire spokesperson Mark Watson said the fall was first reported at 12:30 p.m. at 40 N. Madison Street, an apartment building near the Cherry Creek shopping center.

Watson said the child, a 1-year-old, was on the ground and crying but moving when firefighters arrived. The paramedics were called and transported the child to a nearby hospital a short time later.

Denver Police said the 1-year-old was expected to survive, though the extent of the injuries the child suffered were not known as of Saturday evening.

After a short investigation, Denver Police said it appeared the 1-year-old had been put down for a nap, but somehow managed to climb a chair and lean on a screen, which gave way and fell out.
