Denver workers play hooky to watch Team USA in the World Cup
DENVER — For the thousands who played a bit of hooky from work to watch team USA beat Germany, the outcome not quite what they wanted … but the U.S. does move into the round of 16 at the World Cup anyway.
“We did our work ahead, so we could come today,” said Jill Johnson. “I only get to wear all this red, white, and blue every couple years so this is awesome!”
For fans, you had to be sporting team colors and most were.
Thanks to the British Bulldog Pub and the Denver Outlaws fans, this was the place to be for everyone who wanted to stand in the hot midday sun for a few hours.
Team USA had a tough time with the European power, but even with the loss, thanks to the complicated pool play formulas, the home-boys stay alive and will play next week in the next round.
The Americans play Belgium Tuesday at 2 p.m.
If you plan to watch on 21st and Broadway, come early … folks began gathering about 7 a.m. Thursday. Oh, and wear your colors, the team needs all the support it can get!
