A funeral for a young man was taking place in the 4500 block of Tejon when witnesses say they heard multiple gun shots in the parking lot.
A police spokesman at the scene says officers were attempting to apprehend a 21-year-old fugitive with felony warrants. He was wanted on two felony auto theft warrants and officers had been tracking him all day. He happened to be attending the funeral Wedneaday Evening.
The spokesman says the was in a moving vehicle at the time of the confrontation, and that initial indications were he did not display a weapon. There was a confrontation and four police officers shot the suspect.
A large crowd was held at the scene so that officers could interview them about what they saw and heard. There were clearly a number of people upset by what transpired. Police said they developed a witness list of 45 people plus the four officers involved.
