Police: 1 injured when car slammed into Westminster home, alcohol involved

WESTMINSTER, Colo. — A car crashed into a Westminster home early Thursday morning, injuring one, spinning a car that was parked in the home’s garage and giving the residents inside quite the scare.

Police say the driver of a black Audi sedan, who has since been identified as Jeffrey Lee Holmes, 27, was approaching a curb on 116th Avenue and Chase Way, which is just west of Sheridan Boulevard, when he jumped the curb, nearly missed a tree, hit two fences and then slammed into the garage of the home.

The vehicle also collided with a gas line, forcing firefighters to shut it down when they arrived on scene.

One passenger who was inside the vehicle was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Holmes and passenger, who remained unidentified as of Thursday afternoon, were reportedly celebrating the passenger’s birthday at a nearby bar before the crash.

Investigators believe Holmes was drunk at the time of the crash and said he was placed under arrest and charged with vehicular assault, reckless driving, operating a vehicle while under restraint and failure to provide valid proof of insurance.

A building inspector said that while damage to the home was significant, it was safe for the residents to be inside, however support beams were being installed in the garage Thursday morning.
