Second suspect in Edgewater murder arrested in Texas
DENVER — A man sought in connection with a 2013 murder in Edgewater was arrested Friday in El Paso, Texas.
Colorado native Jose Luis Palacios, 28, was the subject of a homicide warrant in the shooting death of John Goggin, 41. He was arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force without incident, the El Paso Times reported.
Palacios is thought to be one of the men seen at Goggin’s home shortly before he died. Police identified 23-year-old Floyd Sandoval as the other suspect and arrested him shortly after the killing.
The incident began when police found Goggin suffering from a gunshot wound inside a Sheridan Boulevard home in October. The victim was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
“It seems to me that he got the raw end of the deal,” said Christine Meece, Goggin’s friend. “Something somewhere went wrong, from him being such a good-hearted person, helping everyone out. That’s not the way I was thinking it was ever going to end.”
Goggin worked at a Sonic Drive-in down the street, and spent time with employees at a local pawn shop in the area.
“He was a big-hearted guy, he helped out anybody who he can, what he can,” said Don Lopez, Goggin’s landlord. “It was a senseless shooting is all I can think of.”
