Calif. firm recalls contaminated tattoo ink, needles
INDUSTRY, Calif. — A company out of California issued a nationwide recall on all of its tattoo ink and needles due to a bacterial contamination.
The White & Blue Lion, Incorporated in Industry, California announced Friday it was voluntarily recalling tattoo ink, needles and kits because use of the products could cause a bacterial infection, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration.
The infection could lead to sepsis, a potentially fatal complication, the FDA said in its release.
Inks and needles were sold nationwide both in kits and separately by 8Decades and White & Blue Lion, Inc. — they were sold through direct sales and online.
FDA laboratory testing found microbial bacterial contamination in both the inks and needles.
As of Friday, one illness connected to the use of the recalled products had been reported.
