SAVANNAH, Ga. — Animal control officers in Georgia are hoping to find one home for two special friends.
The dogs, nicknamed Joanie and Chachi, were found on the streets a few weeks ago. The white pit bull mix was protecting the Chihuahua mix because of his eye injury. It was carrying the Chihuahua in her mouth, occasionally putting him down to lick the wound.
After doctors worked on the Chihuahua, the dogs had an emotional reunion.
Christina Sutherin, a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Animal Control officer, says it will be best if the two are adopted together.
“Because of the bond the two of them have that is obvious, they both just light up whenever they are around each other, we would really like to have them placed in a home together to be able to continue that bond,” she said. “Sometimes separating them they do go through an emotional stage where they do feel separation.”
People from Florida, Rhode Island and California have expressed interest in adopting the animals after their story went viral.
