DENVER — Motorists planning on traveling along Interstate 25 north of Denver may want to consider a different route because of major construction planned for Saturday.

CDOT has accelerated two major road projects for this weekend.

One of them includes a project to include a toll lane in each direction of I-25 from U.S. 36 to 120th Avenue.

Part of the work requires lowering I-25 pavement underneath 88th Avenue. Starting Friday at 10 p.m., a single lane of northbound I-25 will be closed between 84th Avenue and the Thornton Parkway. The on-ramp to northbound I-25 at 84h Avenue will also be closed.

Both will reopen on Monday.

Other closures are planned for coming weekends.

CDOT said this weekend’s closure is actually ahead of scheduled and will speed up completion of the $66 million I-25 Express Lanes plan by 50 days.

Also this weekend, crews will begin reconstruction of the Jordan Road and Arapahoe Road intersection. Work begins Saturday at midnight and should be done Aug. 16.
