Drugs and alcohol suspected in fatal crash near Boulder

BOULDER, Colo. — One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a head-on crash early Sunday, the Colorado State Patrol said.

The two-vehicle, head-on crash north of Boulder happened about 2:30 a.m. near the intersection of U.S. 36 and Neva Road, CSP said. It involved a 2006 Toyota and a 2013 Hyundai.

The Toyota drifted into oncoming traffic and collided with the Hyundai, which was carrying two people, according to the state patrol.

The passenger in the Hyundai was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, the patrol said. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

U.S. 36 was closed for about five hours while troopers investigated the crash.

Alcohol and drugs are suspected to be factors in the accident, said Sgt. Rob Madden.
