LITTLETON, Colo. — A dozen homes were evacuated in Jefferson County Tuesday morning after a resident found a suspicious “fireworks-based device” while walking, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

A man found the item near the walking path at Blue Heron Lake about 7:50 a.m., police said. The man apparently brought the object home to the area of 2700 West Berry Place before notifying officers of the suspicious device.

Police evacuated his home as well as 11 others and searched the area. Police located two fireworks-based devices and disposed of them, police said.

The evacuations were lifted about 10:15 a.m.
