DENVER — Carlos Gonzalez will have season-ending knee surgery on Monday.
He becomes the second Colorado Rockies superstar in two days to have his season ended by an injury that requires surgery. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki will have a torn labrum in his hip repaired Friday during surgery in Vail.
Gonzalez hasn’t had the great season batting that fans are used to. A string of injuries kept that from happening.
Colorado made the decision to shut him down for the season after consulting with Gonzalez and a number of doctors. He has had knee tendinitis since last season, but tests this week revealed it has grown worse.
