DENVER — A memorial has been set up along the Platte River where a three-year-old boy died Saturday after a tragic accident.

The family identified the child as Amari Furqan. However, the Coroner’s Office has not released an official identification or cause of death. An autopsy is expected to be performed on Monday.

The family believes the boy escaped from a first-floor window and wandered into a nearby park and eventually the river.

“I think the playground attracted him or something,” said Virginia Hertado, the victim’s grandmother.

Police were able to find the child shortly after being notified the toddler was missing. He was pronounced dead at a hospital late Saturday afternoon.

Police have not said whether anyone will face charges from the accident. The family is in the process of setting up a donation account, but exact details were unavailable by Sunday evening.
