First female to try out for Denver Cutthroats

Meet Natalie Wedell, she’s trying out for the Denver Cutthroats.

The Denver Cutthroats announced today that the team will be holding its third annual open tryouts on Friday, August 22 through Sunday, August 24 at Edge Ice Arena in Littleton, Colo. The Cutthroats will also be holding its inaugural Fan Fest on Saturday, August 23 at Edge from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Both tryouts and the Fan Fest are open and free to the public.

The camp gives 60 individual hockey players a chance to prove to the Cutthroats coaching staff their ability to perform on the ice. Select members from the open tryouts will be asked to take part in Denver’s training camp during the month of October.

“The free agent camp is an excellent opportunity for players to showcase their skills,” said Denver Cutthroats Head Coach Brad Smyth. “The Cutthroats have had 12 players move on to the main camp in two years, most notably Phil Tesoriero and Dan Barnes, who are both regulars in the Central Hockey League. With a combination of multiple activities during Fan Fest and the ability to watch high-paced hockey, fans will be in for a good time throughout the weekend.”

Friends, family and fans are invited to join the Denver Cutthroats on Saturday, August 23 for Fan Fest at Edge Ice Arena from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. There will be activities for everyone to enjoy, including:

  • The introduction of the NEW Denver Cutthroats Dancers
  • Live performance by the band 27After
  • On-ice action with tryouts and scrimmages
  • Bouncy house
  • Gill the mascot appearance
  • Hockey shot game
  • Cornhole
  • Ball hockey tournament
  • Contests, prizes and select vendor giveaways
  • Much more!

Following the Fan Fest, the Cutthroats will be holding two open tryouts scrimmages from 2:15 – 3:30 PM and 6:15 – 7:30 PM, with a goaltender session from 5:00 – 6:00 PM on Saturday. Denver Cutthroats players Sean Zimmerman and Phil Tesoriero will be coaching behind the bench throughout the entire weekend, including the All Star Game on Sunday from 2:15 – 4:30 PM.
