GREELEY, Colo. — A 16-year-old Greeley Central High School student was arrested Tuesday after he was found with an Airsoft look-alike handgun, the Greeley Tribune reported.

The boy, who was not identified, was encountered by a school resource officer investigating an incident between the boy and a Greeley-Evans School District 6 campus monitor. The resource officer noticed a bulge in the belt line and search the boy and found the gun, the Greeley Police Department told the Tribune.

A Greeley Central High School student was arrested Tuesday after officers confiscated an Airsoft look-alike handgun from him.

“Any child contemplating bringing a gun, or a facsimile gun, to school really needs to think again. That was a very dangerous situation,” District 6 spokeswoman Theresa Myers told the Tribune. “The gun that child brought to school looked like a real gun, and it created a safety issue for him and really for all of the students.”

The boy was placed at the Juvenile Assessment Center before being released to a parent. He has been suspended from school, and the Weld District Attorney’s Office will determine if criminal charges will be filed.
