Lightning-sparked fire on South Table Mountain burns 29 acres, at 80 percent containment

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- Lightning sparked a brush fire on South Table Mountain in Jefferson County on Tuesday night, West Metro Fire Rescue.

Crews worked quickly to try to keep the flames from causing any damage. When the fire first started, the sheriff's office warned residents who live nearby to be ready to go, just in case, but those have since been lifted.

There were reports of people evacuating a building at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory during the fire. Smoke was visible through the Denver metro area.

By Tuesday night, West Metro Fire said the fire had burned 29 acres and was 80 percent contained.

Crews worked overnight to put out hot spots.
