Police: Carjack suspect in hit-and-run with Denver police cruiser

DENVER -- Police are searching for a carjacker after he allegedly stole a car and rammed a patrol vehicle while fleeing the scene late Monday night, the Denver Police Department said.

The incident happened in the parking lot of a Burger King at 1010 W. Colfax Ave. near Kalamath Street.

Police said the suspect had a knife and threatened a woman in a vehicle. Police said he rammed the police vehicle shortly after he took off. Police chased the suspect for a short time, but then backed off.

The officer and two women in the carjacked vehicle were not injured, police said.

The vehicle is a white Kia Soul with a Texas license plate of GHY-9478. It was last seen going south on Kalameth.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his mid-30s. He was wearing a white shirt and jeans. He's clean shaven and has a buzz cut.
