DENVER -- School children in Denver, Jefferson County, Cherry Creek and most other districts have a few more days before they have to get back to the classroom. Some kids are already back at school this week, though.
Shaul Turner has some ideas about how to keep the kids' immunity up and staying healthy during the new school year in her video report. Here are some healthy recipes you can make for the kids.
Superfood Chocolate Shake
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 Tbl cacao powder
- 1 Tbl hemp seeds
- 1 cup nut milk
- 1 tsp chia seeds
Add the banana, cacao, hemp seeds, and nut milk to a blender. Blend on high until smooth and creamy. Pour into a serving glass and top with chia seeds.
Sweet Energy Bites
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 cup buckwheat groats (aka kasha)
- 1/4 cup brown rice syrup
- 1/4 cup sunflower butter
- 1 Tbl sliced almonds
Pour all ingredients into a large bowl and mix together until well-combined. Form into small balls and place in a container to store in the refrigerator or freezer until ready to eat.
