ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. -- Thursday is the first full day of school at Grandview High School in Arapahoe County and traffic along Arapahoe Road near the school is expected to be a nightmare because a $15 million project to widen the road is still underway.
The project has been ongoing since the spring. It's basically taking the old two-lane road and eventually expanding it to six lanes. But now it's down to just one lane in each direction.
It will be great when it's all done, but with Grandview High School opening on Thursday, putting more students and parents on the road, everyone is bracing for the worst.
"The traffic was so bad before, the fact we are going to get this done before winter flies, they're going to grin and bear these two weeks," Centennial Mayor Cathy Noon said. "Hopefully, we get back on schedule to make up for the time in the spring when we had all that snow."
The project should be completed by the end of October.
