DENVER -- It's called La Fiesta but what inspectors found was anything but a party.
The Denver restaurant failed our report card with 13 critical health code violations in their June and December surprise inspections.
The violations include:
- Dead and live cockroaches
- Rodent droppings
- Chips were stored in a trash bag
- Several blocks of cheese, butter and dressings were thrown out for being too warm.
- Areas of the kitchen were so dirty the city ordered the entire kitchen to be cleaned or closed.
When we stopped by for a comment, the restaurant said, “…everything has been rectified. We have been here for 50 years and our record speaks for itself.”
La Fiesta passed a follow up inspection in July. The restaurant is located at 2340 Champa Street.
It’s Brothers Bar & Grill
The Stapleton restaurant scored an “F” for 10 critical violations in its July inspection. During the review, an inspector saw 8 to ten flies in the kitchen…one sitting on clean dishes.
Other Violations include:
- Two sinks did not have hot water.
- The sanitizer measured zero for sanitizing solution.
- And an employee cracked an egg then touched a quesadilla.
The bar and grill’s corporate office sent this statement that said in part,
“Our company’s Director of Kitchen Operations has reviewed the report with our team and has taken measures to prevent these issues from re-occurring. We are not proud of the way we presented ourselves on July 7th. We are pleased that every concern by the inspector was immediately addressed and corrected.”
The restaurant at Northfield Boulevard had zero violations in its follow up inspection.
Churn & Burn BBQ
A popular food truck that is steaming with flavor scored the “A” for zero critical violations in two un announced inspections in a row. Co-Owner Sean Dionici said you have to keep your cool.
“Got to make sure all your coolers and everything is working properly. To check all your temps and stuff and make sure you are safe handling everything as much as possible I think that’s the most important thing. . It’s hard in the heat you got to make sure you keep everything cold that is supposed to be cold and everything that is hot…hot,” Dionici said.

How restaurants appear on our Report Card
Restaurant Report Card airs on Channel 2 News at 4 p.m. each Friday and features health inspections in the city and county of Denver, Jefferson County, Weld County and restaurants under the jurisdiction of the Tri-County Health Department. The Tri-County Health Department includes Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties.
An inspection is a “snapshot” of what is happening during the day and time of the inspection. On any given day, a restaurant could have more or fewer violations than noted in an inspection. Also, at the time of an inspection, violations are recorded and can be corrected prior to the inspector leaving the restaurant. If violations are not corrected, a follow-up inspection is scheduled.
The criteria Channel 2 uses to give a restaurant a failing grade includes the evaluation of two unannounced inspections by county health inspectors. A failing restaurant must have five critical violations on their most recent regular inspection and five critical violations on the previous regular inspection. Health inspectors may conduct critical or follow-up inspections, due to the number of critical violations found during a regular inspection. Those inspections may also be considered for our reports. We recognize restaurants with two perfect regular inspections in a row by awarding them an A.
