One killed, 2 injured in alcohol-related crash in Clear Creek Canyon
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash that closed Clear Creek Canyon early Monday morning, the Colorado State Patrol said.
The CSP said the crash “appears to be a case of alcohol-fueled birthday celebration” plus “excessive speed gone horribly wrong.”
It happened near mile marker 268. The vehicle landed upside down in the creek.
Two people were transported to hospitals with with moderate to severe injuries but are expected to survive, the CSP said.
An 11-mile stretch of Clear Creek Canyon was closed between Highway 58 and Colorado 119 for about three hours. The canyon is the main roadway to the gambling towns of Black Hawk and Central City.
