Remains found near Berthoud Falls could be of missing skier

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. — Unidentified human remains were recovered near Berthoud Falls on Sunday, the Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office along with 60 searchers from several agencies were looking for 42-year-old backcountry skier Jeremy Rich, who failed to return home from a ski trip on Jan. 28.

It was the second major search effort for Rich, who is from the Denver metro area. A search in June was unsuccessful. The discovery Sunday was at the bottom of an avalanche slide area near the Urad Mine.

The Clear Creek Coroner’s Office is working on identifying the remains. The process would take several weeks, the sheriff’s office said.
