Boulder police and SWAT capture shooting suspect after overnight search

BOULDER, Colo. -- Boulder police and SWAT have captured Russell Daniels who they say fired 4 shots while officers were talking to him late Tuesday night, Boulder police said.

Law enforcement captured Daniels shortly after 7:00 a.m. Wednesday. He was located on a bike path  just north of the 4000 block of Baseline Road.

Police say he was taken to an area hospital in an ambulance because of a self-inflected wound to his head. He is currently undergoing treatment.

Police say it started around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday officers responded to the area of Hickory Avenue and Brooklawn Drive on a report of a suspicious motorhome with someone living inside. Officers learned that the motorhome was registered to  Daniels who has a criminal history, an out of state felony drug warrant and a restraining order against a female whose car was parked nearby.

Officers say they tried to contact Daniels, but he refused to come out of the motorhome.

Police say there is a significant amount of blood in the RV, which police believe is a result of Daniel’s shooting himself.

Roads in the area have reopened.

Officials say charges against Daniels’s will be determined after the investigation is completed.
