Suspect dead following officer-involved shooting in north Fort Collins

FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- A suspect is dead following a call regarding a domestic disturbance that lead to an officer involved shooting in Fort Collins on Thursday night, police said.

Police say they got a call about a domestic disturbance with a weapon in the 900 block of North Highway 287 (North College Avenue) around 7:22 p.m. on Thursday.

The road was closed between Highway 1 (Terry Lake Road) and Shields while the incident was being investigated.

Police said the female caller said that the male suspect was armed and been threatening her and others before he left the scene. The man then entered the woman’s house illegally, police say.

Police say they got the man to come out, but he had his weapon. Officers say they attempted to Taser the man, but the suspect did not stop. That is when officers fired at the suspect, police say. No officers were injured.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

The suspect’s identity will be released pending notification of kin.

The names of the involved officers have not been released at this time.

The Larimer County Critical Incident Response Team will investigate this incident.
